Photoshop is the preferred software to use for your magazine design work in the NEA, however it is time consuming. Inexperience with the programme can also make it frustrating to achieve the design ideas in your head. Here are some alternatives, or sites that you can start to play around with draft and layout ideas.
Poster My Wall – Templates to start you off for magazine covers, either as draft or final (watermarked final version will need cropping out). Not much for contents pages though.

Canva – Templates to start you off (better for contents, magazine covers get better the further you scroll down)

GIMP
For those that want a more ‘hands-on’ creative experience then:

Online alternative to Photoshop but obviously more limited in what it can do.
Please remember that you need to show a consistent and convergent BRAND IDENTITY and HOUSE STYLE across all of your design work. That includes magazines and website. Simple things like fonts used for the masthead and body text should be the same (might be a problem to get this if using template sites above and Weebly to create your online NEA website). Something to bear in mind.
